Before using ChatGPT, you need to know about its pricing plan, billing system, and usage restrictions.
ChatGPT is free to use, but there are also billing plans, so you can use ChatGPT more comfortably by knowing the difference between ChatGPT's pricing plans, billing system, and usage restrictions.

ChatGPT's Pricing Plans and Billing System
ChatGPT has two plans: the Free Plan, which is the base plan, and ChatGPT Plus ($20/month), which is the billing plan.
The differences between ChatGPT's free and charged plans are the language model used, priority access even during peak access times, and faster response times.
If you just want to use the interactive AI, the free plan is sufficient, but if you want to use the more accurate interactive AI more frequently, you will benefit from paying for the paid version, ChatGPT Plus.
plan | language model | response rate | peak hour | new features |
---|---|---|---|---|
ChatGPT Plus | GPT-4 | Very fast | Priority | Support for image input |
Free Version | GPT-3.5 | Fast | - | - |
Restrictions on the use of ChatGPT
ChatGPT has usage restrictions for both the free plan and ChatGPT Plus. It is important to note that paying for ChatGPT Plus does not remove the restrictions at all.
There are two restrictions: the number of requests and the limit on the number of characters you can input, which are greatly reduced with ChatGPT Plus.
plan | requests/minute | requests/day | characters sent |
---|---|---|---|
ChatGPT Plus | Up to 600 | 100,000 | 4,096 characters |
Free Version | Up to 60 | 4,000 | 2,048 characters |
By upgrading to ChatGPT Plus, the maximum number of requests per minute is relaxed to 10 times, the number of requests per day to 2.5 times, and the number of characters to twice.
Especially large are the maximum number of requests per minute and the number of characters to be sent, and if you use ChatGPT continuously, you may unexpectedly get caught in the limit. If the maximum limit is exceeded, it may be necessary to open the server for an hour or so in some cases.
The difference in character limits is also a big difference. While the free version allows 2,048 characters, ChatGPT Plus allows 4,096 characters, twice as many as the free version. You may be thinking, "Isn't 2,048 characters enough?" However, when you want ChatGPT to do more advanced work, it is advantageous to have a larger number of characters to send, because the character limit is often exceeded unexpectedly, for example, when you want ChatGPT to summarize a long sentence.
Advantages of signing up for ChatGPT Plus
Even at the former "ChatGPT Plus" peak, the main advantages were the unlimited access and limited number of input characters, but now the biggest advantage is the availability of the next generation large-scale language model "GPT-4," which was released on March 15, 2023. The free version is "GPT-3.5," which is based on "GPT-3" and has a chat interface.
The free version is GPT-3.5, which is based on GPT-3 with a chat interface, and GPT-4 is said to be "even smarter and less error-prone.
To give you an idea of how much smarter it has become, when the US bar exam was taken on GPT 3.5, it was taken by the bottom 10% of test takers, but on GPT-4, it is so much smarter that it is in the top 10% of test takers.
More and more users are paying for ChatGPT Plus because it means that they can be more active in business and other activities because of the increased percentage of correct answers to their input.
